John R. Saksa, Psy.D. Licensed Psychologist
Patients can expect professional and scientific psychotherapy that focuses on their individual problems. This specific approach is called Cognitive Behavior Therapy, or CBT. CBT is particularly effective for anxiety and mood disorders, but also for anger, relationship problems and substance use disorders, and more. Unlike other approaches that are based on supportive conversations and endless discussion of childhood experiences, I will work hard to identify and treat the mechanisms that cause your specific problems to recur. It is a fair question to ask why a person is repeatedly troubled by a symptom despite their best efforts to deal with it as an intelligent person. Unfortunately, not every effort is effective because some efforts might have a negative impact on a symptom. Good news: current psychological strategies can effectively treat these unhelpful mechanisms, and that is my job. Your job, of course, is to be willing to directly address these mechanisms. Together, we can methodically and safely proceed in your treatment. Many problems can improve within just weeks or a few months. |
